Welling United 2 Herne Bay 3

The post 16 academy travelled to Cleeve Park to face Welling United, as top played second.

A strengthened Welling team due to their national league team not playing that day, took a two goal lead and enjoyed much of the early possession. The home team created far more in the opening half an hour of the game.

Two excellent saves from Cox in goal kept the visitors in it, The Bay then produced a moment of quality towards the end of the half with McCarthy scoring just before the break.

The Bay started the second half well and were level before too long, a good press saw Harvey steal the ball and make it 2-2.

The Bay continued to frustrate the hosts in the second period and then took the lead for the first time in the game.

Squires broke clear of the defence, calmly rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Overall, superb team performance from the boys!
