Herne Bay U23 secured a thrilling back-to-back victory, collecting six points from their last two home games before facing the league leaders, Chatham Town U23, in a tough away fixture. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions and showcased the resilience and skill of the young Herne Bay squad.
The home team started fast and aggressive, scoring within the first 60 seconds of the match. This early goal set the tone for the first half, with Snodland Town struggling to overcome Herne Bay's relentless high press. Herne Bay dominated possession and created numerous chances with their free-flowing play in front of goal.
Goals came from Toby Downs, an own goal, and Vinnie Bowman, all resulting from quick attacks down the wing and precise crosses. Oscar Walter added the fourth goal just before halftime, making it 4-0 and leaving Snodland Town with a mountain to climb in the second half.
The second half saw a much-improved performance from the away team, who showed determination and grit by scoring three goals. Herne Bay seemed to step off the pace, almost as if a different team had taken the field. With 30 minutes still to play, Herne Bay's captain, Finley Turner, was sent off after losing his temper, leaving the home team vulnerable and Snodland Town smelling blood.
Relief came for Herne Bay with just under 10 minutes to go when Jack Omans scored his first U23 goal, a moment of joy for the young player from the Under 16s and a crucial goal for the team. The match day sponsor, Kimber Estates, the best local estate agents in the Herne Bay area, chose Toby Downs as the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Despite the challenges, Herne Bay U23 showed great courage and good game management to see out the victory. A massive thank you to Kimber Estates for their continued support of the Under 23 team.
Herne Bay U23 now looks forward to their next challenge against Chatham Town U23, hoping to continue their winning streak and climb the league table.
