Another totally dominant display, but lacking goals, resulting in penalty shoot out to determine who progressed to the next round against Peter Taylor’s National League, Welling United. Sevenoaks played a second-string side giving chances to a number of youngsters. Bay also utilised his full squad of players.
All the attacks came from Bay with the occasional breakaway from the visitors. Rory Smith fires in a low volley which Oaks Teddy Chandler, 17-year-old keeper, comfortably saved. He followed this with a fine save, tipping Adem Ramadan’s volley from the edge of area over the bar, after the defender had gifted the ball to Adem. Again, when Ramadan made a mazy run into the box, he came out quickly to block the shot.
There followed a couple of attempts that sailed harmlessly over the bar, from Bode Anidugbe and Smith. Ramadan then went close. His shot hits the post and rebounds safely away. On 25 minutes, Sevenoaks had their very first shot, on target bringing a diving save from Jordan Perrin. Another shot from Ramadan is tipped over the bar by Chandler. Oaks, Stephen Ikpeme fires in a shot from outside the area which Perrin comfortably saves. At the other end, Ramadan again has his goal bound shot saved by Chandler with his feet. Just before the interval Ikpeme broke free only for Dan Carrington to put in a tremendous tackle to prevent a shot on goal.
The second half produced more of the same. Oak’s substitute, Harvey Welford, son of goal scoring legend, Shaun breaks through but is well tackled by Reion McFarlane. Kieron Campbell, who had a quiet first half drills in a low volley the wrong side of the upright. Then the inevitable happened Sevenoaks scored. From a free kick 2 yards outside the area, Ben Davidsson somehow hit the ball around the ‘wall’ beating Perrin at the far post to give the visitors an unexpected lead. A Kane Phillip volley is deflected away for a corner, from which the ball is cleared. Bay press forward with attacks down the left and from one of these the equaliser came. Jack Parter and Campbell working well ending with Campbell curling his shot inches wide of the far post. From a similar move Campbell shoots from 25 yards out. Chandler looked like saving easily, but he let the ball pass through his hands and legs to roll over the line. The last 5 minutes became frantic as Bay searched for a winning goal, but Oaks held firm. The penalty shoot out followed:
