Herne Bay FC Over 50s Walking Football team are champions of England after beating Leggy Mambos of Barnsley 1-0 in the final thanks to Neil Davey's solo strike, writes Peter Guise.

The National finals took place today (Sunday 30th October 2016) in Cirencester with the four regional winners taking part: Leggy Mambos from Barnsley, Abbeymead Rovers from Gloucester, Birmingham WFC and Herne Bay.

Following the group stage round robin Herne Bay played Leggy Mambos in the final whilst the other two sides played the 3rd / 4th play off final.

The win sparked off a range of comments on Herne Bay FC's social media sites including current players including current Herne Bay FC full back Michael Turner commenting "I tell you what these old boys have still got it".

They certainly have and will now play in the British Finals to be held in Hartlepool on Sunday 13th November 2016 where the contestants will be:

Herne Bay, England
Montrose, Scotland
Methyr Tydfill, Wales
and a team from Ireland.
