Herne Bay's over 50s Walking Football team are South East Regional Champions and will go into the National Finals Day, most likely at Cirencester, on Sunday 30th October against Leggy Mambo's from Barnsley, South Yorkshire (champions for the past two seasons), Abbeymead Rovers from Gloucester and either LPF 1988 from Leicester or Birmingham WFC, reports Ron Boddy.
Herne Bay FC's Over 50's Walking Football squad travelled today to Uxbridge to take on Uxbridge Amblers and Aylesbury United in the SE Regional Final. The first match up was between Uxbridge and Aylesbury. Neither side could take advantage of the other and it finished goalless. Herne Bay FC were then up against Uxbridge and ran out comfortable winners by 3-0 with goals from Neil Davey (2) and David Gilham. Next Herne Bay met Aylesbury and this proved a tougher encounter. However early in the second half a soft shot from David Gilham eluded the Aylesbury goalkeeper. Neil Brown added a second a few minutes later and Herne Bay won 2-0. The reverse matches then started and this time Uxbridge proved too strong for Aylesbury winning 3-0. Herne Bay then took on Uxbridge and this proved a much tougher match finishing 1-1 with a goal from Neil Brown. This draw however meant that Herne Bay could not be overtaken in the round robin. Herne Bay made some changes for the final match with Aylesbury and slipped to a 1-0 defeat with Aylesbury scoring in the last minute.
Final positions: Herne Bay 7 points, Uxbridge 5 points, Aylesbury 5 points.
